EBL focuses on utilizing biotechnology to treat environmental related issue. With the combination of traditional biotechnology and the most popular molecular biology, we are able to apply the both technology on most important environmental issue in Taiwan and worldwide, such as pollution control and developing renewable energy.
Traditional biotechnology includes:
(1) Operating bioreactor to incubate dominant microorganisms for degrading specific pollutant.
(2) Using microscope for observing morphology of microorganisms.
(3) Detecting the efficiency and rate of microorganisms to degrade specific pollutant.
(4) Evaluating and optimizing treatment process by microorganisms with mathematical model.
Molecular biology is a fast and fundamental method based on establishing gene sequences to monitor dominant microorganisms which are responsible for degrading pollutant. Combing the results of molecular biology and traditional biotechnology, we can know more about microorganisms and increase the efficiency of degrading specific pollutant.
