The Architectural Acoustics Lab (AALab) of the Department of Architecture of National Cheng Kung University was established in 1978. Our research projects include the performance of sound insulation and absorption in building materials and structures. We also assist the industry in conducting field performance testing and acoustic simulation of spaces such as concert halls that include background Noise, reverberation time, sound insulation performance of building elements, etc.

AALab is also engaged in academic research, industry-academia cooperation, on-site inspection and field testing. Not only have a value of achievements in academia, but also assist the government in research projects and provide a database for building regulations. We committed to product research and development in building materials related industries.

AALab was certified by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) in April, 2018 (No.3502), and also completed the extended certification of ISO 17025 in 2019. AALab is based on two fields with different acoustic characteristics, a reverberation room and a semi-anechoic room. The reverberation room has a volume of 171.7 cubic meters, and is specially designed that the sides of the field are not equal in length, parallel, and the walls have no decoration. The semi-anechoic room has a volume of 211.6 cubic meters. All the surface of the room, except for the floor, are equipped with sound absorber wedges.
