ABSTRACT

Our team plan to solve the problem that the silver nanoparticle of antibacterial products releases silver ions/silver particles too fast and let the durability be limited. Thus, we used argon-plasma to etch electrospinning fiber containing AgNO3 allowing the silver to deoxidize and form silver nanoparticles that evenly attach on the surface of the string. This would not only improve the durability but also decrease the hazard to our health and the environment due to the burst release of silver ions. We further demonstrate that the argon-plasma treated silver nanoparticle-incorporated electrospinning fiber effectively decreased the growth of fungi in the gas-phase filtration antimicrobial analysis though the morphology of the fungi spores were not dramatically affected. We looked forward to developing a novel air filtration and other products, so our team and joined the International Nanotechnology Olympiad (INO) competition. Via demonstrating our technology, the product development plan, and a potential commercial mode, our presentation not only got favor by judges but caught other competitor’s eyes. Eventually, we won the silver medal in the INO competition!
